Multi Shot Molding: Cosmetic Solution
Multi Shot Molds is a method to mold plastic parts with two or more colours, and these to be molded at the same time, can be seen on tool handles, radio buttons within car interiors for cosmetic branding purposes.
Multi shot molding is still relatively new and is cost efficient in that one of the colours used can be to add a logo to the part, completing the part in one cycle rather than the old method of adding the logo as a separate process.
This application has been further developed in that you can now produce multiple shot moldings using different materials.
The multiple shot process advantages are:
- Incorporate new designed features
- Increase cosmetic appeal of the product
- More cost efficient method of producing multi coloured products
- Add two different plastics which give you different characteristics. Tool handles have a flexible grip part moulded together with the hard and durable inner handle
- Toys with moveable parts are often made with this process
